Fabulous Short Break in Normandy – Riding cows!
Normandy looks set to enjoy a short break renaissance in 2015 with two new flight routes (from London City to Deauville and from Southend to Caen) adding accessibility, while a strong pound means France is more affordable than ever. Some of the region’s best attractions are found in the often-overlooked Orne, an off-the-beaten track area which is within easy reach of the coast: and families there’s a simply brilliant option which includes a cow ride (for the kids, obviously…!) and donning an explorer’s backpack.
Little Explorers
A unique way to explore Suisse Normande with little ones (from 3-10 years) from the visitor centre at La Roche D’Oetre is to launch them astride a cow to explore the footpaths and bridleways from April-September. Next-up, head to the Maison de la rivière in nearby Segrie-Fontaine to kit-out with a discovery backpack, and follow a one-mile trail using the binoculars, magnifying glass and net provided.
With an easy-to-read map, move between a number of explanatory terminals which each have an observation, activity or music to engage little ones.
Normandy Weekend offers Petits explorateurs en Suisse Normande breaks from £145 for 2 adults and 1 child, including one nights’ B&B, a 1h30 cow ride, a half day discovery backpack, a picnic and dinner.
