Paris for £29! We Show You How to Find the Cheap Eurostar tickets
** How to find the cheap Eurostar tickets – post updated now that Voyages.sncf has become Oui.sncf – and the monthly price calendar is back! **
(PS – In the spirit of full disclosure, this post contains affiliate links. That means you don’t pay any more, but I may earn a teensy smidge of commission (which frankly just helps my coffee habit). Thank you, in advance, for your support!)
If you’re thinking about travelling to France this year, then now’s your time to book; you need to be quick if you want to bag the best prices. But how to find the cheap Eurostar tickets? Right now the regular £29 ticket sale is on, but fret not if you can’t see them – all year round you can get tickets to Paris for around £35.
(Fancy a Parisian Christmas market break? Currently you can grab those £29 for the first week in December!)
Of course the Eurostar isn’t just about Paris – it opens up the whole of mainland Europe to you. We’ve gone straight to the heart of Lille for a kids free city break, and last summer had another city break in Bordeaux ; with a simple connection at Gard Du Nord, we were strolling through the Place de La Bourse just after lunch.
But sometimes Paris is all you’re looking for; and if you can bag a cheap ticket, then that makes it a pretty bargainous short break, doesn’t it?
Earlier this year we had a short trip to Disneyland Paris – we snagged the £58 Eurostar return tickets for the four of us, used the Metro across Paris, and then the normal French train service to Marne-la-Vallée – saving ourselves over £200 on the direct train fare.
How to find the cheap Eurostar tickets
So here’s the important bit. This really isn’t one of those deals where the ticket prices are advertised, but impossible to find. It’s easy – but you do need to plan ahead, and be flexible with your dates.
The new Oui.SNCF site has gone back to the old monthly calendar option, which is frankly brilliant for those of us looking to bag a cheap short break. Just put in your desired dates, and it’ll show you the whole month;
Currently there’s no £29 tickets left for July – but as you can see there’s a LOT in August are still available for the summer holidays.
Remember that there are limitations on the travel times for these super-cheap tickets (which is fair enough, really). They are only available for travel:
– between midday and midnight on a Monday;
– anytime on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday; and
– between midday and midnight on a Saturday.
So keep a little flexibility in your travel plans, and you could be booking a short break in Paris that’ll cost you less then £140 for two.
There’s even some availability during school holidays – be flexible on your tickets and try not to travel at the weekends for the best deals (oh, and kids & teens are £28 a ticket, too).
The Eurostar is absolutely our favourite way to take the family across the channel – at this price it’s crazy to miss out on the opportunity to explore the French capital together during the school holidays.
Or of course you can mix it up a little – once you’re in Paris, a continent of cities opens up before you. For just €25 more, you could find yourself in the beautiful Lyon. Or maybe you want to head over the border to Geneva? Just an extra 3hrs and €39, thanks!
So. Head to the Oui.sncf site and find your tickets for your next train adventure.
(And if you’re wondering what do do with the kids once you’re there, Clare from Suitcases and Sandcastles has written a brilliant guide on The Best Things to do with Kids in Paris)
Perfect timing! We’ve just been chatting about taking the train to Paris. Just need to find cheaper trains from our nearest town to London now ;-) #citytripping
Oh I know – it’s cheaper to get from London to Paris than it is to get from Dorset to London! Mind you the railcards help – and if you use your Tesco points to buy them it becomes even cheaper. We use a Family & Friends card for family trips, and a Two Together card for kid-free breaks; one trip to London and we’ve recouped the cost of the card.
Wow! I’m flabbergasted – what amazing prices! I love the idea of visiting a European Christmas market. Now I just need to sort out the UK travel side! #citytripping
