The 5 best holiday cottages in Cornwall
Everyone family has to have at least one Cornish summer holiday. With over 300 miles of coastline it’s got to be the ultimate in UK beach holidays – and combine those amazing beaches with the wild moorland, Cornwall’s stately homes, the food scene, the gardens (and yet more beaches) and you start to understand why so many families don’t go just once, but return year after year. Whether you’re looking for the gentle sandy softness of the Southern coast, or the wild Atlantic surfer’s paradise of the North shores, there’s plenty for every family to choose from.
Of course there’s a huge choice of accommodation for your holiday, from top hotels to a plethora of campsites. But for us, a cottage holiday is where it’s at – a home-from-home that is all ours for our stay. And we’ve scoured the listings to find our absolute top favourite cottages for your Cornish Family Adventure this year.
1 – Dune View
Dune View is a sturdy, stone built, detached cottage on two levels in Rose, standing firm by the dunes and coast for unknown centuries. Sleeping 6 people in three bedrooms with a cosy living room featuring a huge inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove, leading through to an equally spacious kitchen-dining room which has a door to the large garden.
A footpath runs from the village to the amazing stretch of Perran Sands, over SSSI sand dunes – about a 3 mile round walk, but also close enough to visit such places as Newquay, Perranporth or St Agnes.

2 – Little Trevean
This lovely country cottage is set in half an acre of beautiful woodland gardens which is less than three miles from Coverack, positioned down a quiet back road on the edge of the Lanarth Estate.
Absolute seclusion and privacy is a given, perfect for family and friends seeking a tranquil haven in a perfect Cornish setting.
Little Trevean boasts a lovely sitting room with wood burning stove, a dining room and kitchen with laundry room. Sleeping five in three bedrooms it also has a family bathroom and seperate shower room. A beautiful tranquil garden awaits you for alfresco dinning.
Set in the countryside amongst pretty scenic villages and meandering walks, this is a wonderful area to explore. Just over a mile away is the coastal footpath and the picturesque little fishing village of Coverack with its quaint old harbour and a rock-strewn beach, which is ideal for young children.

3 – Castaways
Castaways is a fantastic holiday cottage situated just 60 metres from the Blue Flag sandy beach in the village of Porthtowan, on Cornwall’s picturesque and rugged north coast. Equipped to a very high standard, the cottage enjoys views of the sea, sand dunes and cliffs.
A secure enclosed garden and off road parking, sleeping 6 people in three bedrooms this property is a must for those seeking a surfing adventure beach paradise holiday.

4 – Rock Cottage
A stunning 16th century waterside cottage in a idyllic peaceful location with absolutely no neighbours, beautiful views from the house and gardens and your own boat to explore the gentle tidal creeks.
Sleeping 6 people in three bedrooms, Rock cottage is set within a fabulous location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For over 400 years Rock Cottage has stood alone on a promontory overlooking the stunning and ever-changing landscapes of the Helford River which borders the grounds on two sides.
Rock Cottage is well equiped and offers a light and modern kitchen/diner, fully equipped to high standards with all you need and the added bonus of a fabulous view!
Fish for Sea Bass, launch your SUP’s and kayaks from here and explore the gentle tidal creeks whilst discovering the bird life living along the oak wooded shoreline.
Although set in this idilyc peaceful area Rock Cottage also has an excellent location for visiting many places on the Lizard Peninsula.

5 – Lower Margate
Lower Margate is a beautiful grade 2 listed four bedroom house in an absolute stunning location on the outskirts of Cardinham woods near Bodmin in the heart of Cornwall. Cardinham woods is renowned for it’s cycly and walking trails and is a truly beautiful area full of all nature has to offer.
Sleeping 8 people in four bedrooms, Lower Margate has all the amenities you would expect from sucha property. Set in just over an acre of grounds Lower Margate provides a relaxing retreat and is perfect if you enjoy the outdoor life. Direct access into Cardinham woods it is also just 5 minutes away from the beautiful National trust property of Lanhydrock and approximately 25 minutes from the Eden Project. Equidistant from both the north and south coasts of Cornwall, Lower Margate is in a perfect position to explore everything Cornwall has to offer.
