5 Things To Remember Before Your Summer Road Trip
Summer is here and it looks like we’re finally getting some gorgeous weather which means that it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore. There’s no better way to do this than to go on a summer road trip and see what adventure awaits. Before you set off, make sure you have a plan in place as preparation is key. The plan doesn’t need to be set in stone, but having some kind of itinerary will help you along the way. We’ve put together some tips which will hopefully make your summer road trip run smooth.
Understand the new rules of the road
Whether you’re a new driver or you’ve been driving for quite some time, it’s best to familiarise yourself with any changes that have come into place recently. Kwik Fit has put together a really useful eBook which looks at some of the more recent changes such as MOTs, driving tests and the Highway Code regarding overtaking cyclists. So if you’re looking at going on an adventurous road trip this summer, have a read through so you’re up to date.
Only pack essential items
When you’re going on a road trip the last thing you want is to fill the car with unnecessary items. To avoid this, make a list of everything you’re going to need, including vital car items such as:
- A torch with working batteries
- A fully charged mobile phone and charger
- First aid kit
- Spare tyre
- Empty fuel can
- Important documents such as driving license, car insurance details
- Sat-nav
- Wiper fluid and brake fluid
Plan your stopping points
While it can be spontaneous to drive without a place in mind, it’s best to have a few stopping points planned before you leave. This gives you time to see what there is to do nearby and where you can stop for somewhere to eat or for a toilet break, especially if you’re travelling with little ones.
Factor in some entertainment
One of the fun things about a road trip is travelling with your friends or family and creating fun memories. Make sure you plan some entertainment during the road trip, whether it’s a playlist of all your favourite songs that you can sing together or playing some classic car games. Don’t forget to take some snaps along the way to document your adventure.
Don’t forget the snacks
It’s not fun for anyone to drive for a long period of time on an empty stomach, so ensure you pack plenty of snacks and drinks for the trip. If you’re planning to stop off along the way to eat, you can still fill up on things such as fruit, nuts, popcorn, cereal bars and plenty of water to stay hydrated on your journey.
These are just 5 things you need to remember before you plan your summer road trip. If you have any pre road trip advice of your own that you’d like to share, we’d love to hear.
